Step By Step Process To Making Heavenly Vegan Pulled Jackfruit
Now, it’s time for you to measure and gather your ingredients. This will make your cooking much faster. After you’re done, let’s grab our skillet, spatula and get to cooking!
Prepare Your Jackfruit
For this, you’ll start by removing the core parts of your jackfruit. This is the hard white stone in the middle. After that, wash and strain your jackfruit.
Also, remove any seed pits or fiber from the jackfruit. Once you’re done processing, proceed to cut them into small pieces. Measurably 1 inch pieces.
Season And Cook Your Jackfruit
Put your skillet on medium heat and add one tablespoon of olive oil to it. For this, use a large skillet.
Add your onions to your pan and cook it for 10-12 minutes. Sautee until your onions seem soft, tender, and translucent. Then add your garlic and jackfruit and give it a good stir.
After your jackfruit has been cooking for about 2 mins, add your seasonings. Start with cumin, paprika, chipotle, pepper, and salt. Mix it well. Then add your Worcestershire and mustard. Then let the mixture simmer for 5 mins.
Now the next step is to add the vegetable stock. So, pour in the stock and stir it a bit. Then, close the lid and let it simmer for 45 mins.
Once it has been simmering for 45 minutes, it’s time to mash it!
Well, not entirely mashed. But shredded or pulled enough to match the texture of pulled pork. For this, you’ll take two forks and shred until it is separated into long pieces.
Now that it’s prepped and looks almost like shredded pork, it’s time to bake!
Baking Your Cooked Jackfruit
Here, we’re going to transfer our jackfruit from the pan to a foil-lined baking sheet. Use a tong to spread it evenly on your lined tray.
You don’t have to pour all the remaining juice into the skillet. Just scoop up the jackfruit and you’ll see that it’s releasing some of the juice. You can leave it there, it’ll work just fine!
For the rest of the juice in the pan, you can discard it. As you won’t need that anymore!
Then, put your tray in the oven, and set the temperature to 350°F. It’ll take about an hour and a half to bake. But we aren’t gonna set our timer to 90 minutes. Rather, we’re gonna take it out at 80 minutes.
After 80 minutes, take out your tray. Make sure to wear your oven mitts! Now place your tray on the countertop. You’re now going to grab your BBQ sauce and add to it. Then stir and mix well.
After that, place it back in the oven for 10 more minutes. And finally, it’s ready!
Now, it’s time to transfer it into a bowl. We’re so close to having a bite of this mouth-watering barbequed goodness!
Scrape off the pulled jackfruit from the foil. For this, use a spatula and slowly pull it out. Then take a bowl and place it there.
Voila! We’re done making this heavenly jackfruit filling for your sandwich! Oh, wait no it’s basically meat, I mean the texture! It even literally tastes like meat.
Now It’s Time To Serve!
Ahh! Finally, it’s time to fill up your bun with the pulled jackfruit and serve! So, grab your bun and bowl, and let’s add the dressing!
You can add lettuce, tomatoes with the barbecued jackfruit. If you want an extra bit of flavor, you can even add another layer of bbq sauce!
So, grab your sandwich and dig in. And feel the richness of the sauce and the filling do its magic!
