About Us

Hi there! My name is Leah Greenstein

I’ve dipped my toes into pick bins brimming with icy-cold grapes fresh from the vineyard, cursing and laughing as my feet went numb. I’ve smiled and wound my way through 15-hour workdays, managing top restaurants in New York and Los Angeles. I’ve waited tables, washed dishes and done kitchen prep all while going to college, then grad school, juggling publishing jobs and struggling to find time to write.

Over the years I’ve written and edited on a variety of subjects — from adventure sports to technology to commercial fiction — but I am most passionate about food and wine. I write about cooking, dining and wine from the perspective of a consummate geek, marrying more than a dozen years in the restaurant industry, a push-the-limits personality, your average home cook’s kitchen skills and your not-so-average home cook’s ambition.

I started SpicySaltySweet as a fun, easy-to-read, conversational blog about food, with the goal of providing great recipes and real stories about the trials and tribulations of cooking and creating new dishes. These days I am the writer and editor for K&L Wine Merchants, a freelance, Los Angeles-based  food and wine writer and, of course, food blogger. And if all that didn’t keep me busy enough, my writing partner, Brooke Burton (aka Foodwoolf), and I are finishing up our first book proposal.
