Dry Rub + BBQ Sauce for Maximum Flavor

- Two tablespoons of unsalted butter
- Two tablespoons of paprika
- Freshly chopped onions
- Freshly chopped and mashed garlic
- Two teaspoons of light brown sugar
- One cup of barbecue sauce
- Two pounds of medium sweet potatoes
- One teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- Two teaspoons of kosher salt
- 500g of beef brisket
- One tablespoon of ground cumin
- Grind the butter, sweet paprika, cumin, garlic powder, sugar, smoked paprika, and pepper in a small bowl. Then set the mixture aside.
- Remove any excess fat, but remember not to compromise the quality of the meat. Pat the meat dry by using paper towels. Use your fingers to remove any excessive fat from the meat without removing it entirely. Then, apply some of the spicy butter onto the meat under the skin. Ensure that you reach all the way to back to ensure the meat seasons as required. Apply the remaining half of butter on the exterior of the meat.
- Put the potatoes in a 5 quart or large slow cooker. Then, pour in the broth you had prepared earlier. At this point, you will place the beef brisket on the top section of the potatoes. Also, ensure that you cover it well and let it cook until the briskets reach temperatures of 165°F on an instant-read thermometer.
- The next step is to position an oven rack a few inches below the broiler, and then heat the oven as required. Remember that controlling the heat levels during the broiling process is crucial towards the quality of meat. You can also use an instant read thermometer at this point to help you regulate the heat levels.
- You will then have to transfer the beef brisket to a baking sheet. Then, cover the slow cooker and continue to prepare the potatoes. The next step is to brush the beef brisket with some barbecue sauce. Once it’s ready, broil the mixture, and the sauce becomes piping hot. Then, let it sit.
- Transfer the beef brisket to a clean cutting board. Remember to let it sit for a few minutes such that the juices redistribute throughout the meat. Then cut the meat. Remove the sweet potatoes from the slow cooker and transfer them to a serving dish. Discard the remaining cooking liquid, and then serve the meat.
Storage – Keep the Leftovers in an Airtight Container for a Few Days
Prepare ahead – you can prepare the spiced butter a few days before and freeze it. Then, let it thaw to room temperature before you apply it to the meat. Also, you can rub the turkey with the spiced butter and freeze it for a few hours before cooking. If you prefer meals with lots of chilli, using the chopped types would be best. Why?
